Spot Price, Premiums, And What You're Actually Paying For
The gold spot price is the live wholesale price of raw, unfabricated gold — it’s the number you see on our ticker below, and it moves constantly with global markets. What you pay for a physical bar or coin is the spot price plus a premium, which covers refining, minting, assay/certification, and the dealer’s margin. Premiums are typically lower on larger bars and higher on smaller coins, since minting cost doesn’t scale down proportionally.
Purity matters too. Investment-grade gold bullion is typically .999 or .9999 fine (99.9%–99.99% pure gold), produced by LBMA-accredited or equivalent recognised refiners, and should come with assay documentation you can verify. We only deal in bullion that meets this standard.

Investment-grade gold bullion meeting IRD’s “fine metal” purity threshold (99.5%+) is generally GST-exempt in New Zealand when supplied in bar, ingot, or coin form.
